Sight to see in Misamis Occidental (Plaridel, Mis.Occ)

Inspired by local travellers who keep on showing how awesome our own place is, I along with my friends visited with our hearts in excitement this island in our province – Baobawon Island in Plaridel Misamis Occidental. Contrary to the normal means of transportation we didn’t need to ride a boat to get to the island. 🙂 Yes, seriously. Few years back you really have to; now that the local government put effort in promoting their tourist spot, you just need to walk a 900 meters foot bridge. I tell you, your 900-meter walk to the island will be full of pauses as you need to strike a pose with your camera ‘coz the view is just worth-taking.

Once you get to the island? You will surely love the place. You’ll enjoy swimming. The view it offers will make you love the beach even more. You can take plenty of pictures with a very awing background. A place so refreshing and relaxing; you’ll forget the stresses in life.

One more thing is that, you don’t need to spend much to get into this place because you can visit the place for free- I mean there’s no entrance fee. You can ride a bus going to Panalsalan, Plaridel (Crossing going to Panalsalan Elem. School)  then from there, ride a tricycle going to the foot bridge the fare is only Php 15.00. You can bring food with you but there are also local residents that sell food once you reach the place where the foot bridge starts. We were from Oroquieta City and each of us spent only 90.00 for the fare (back and fourth). We brought food and drinks with us. ‘Twas a well spent sunday for everyone.

What we learned from the trip though are that island hopping doesn’t have to be costly, explore our own local tourist spots and be proud of it, promote the place as it will help the local tourism.

After all, it’s more fun in the Philippines right? Travel and explore. If you’re on a tight budget and cannot travel for more than 2 days (because of work)  then I suggest choose to go to places near you. You might be looking or thinking of places way too far yet the place you need to be is just a few hours away. Enjoyment doesn’t have to be expensive and extravagant.
